California Man Poses as Teen Girl Online, Grooms and Assaults Pennsylvania Minor

The stakes could not be higher when allegations of internet sex crimes arise. With long prison terms, the potential for a lifetime of mandatory registration as a sex offender, and the prevailing public stigma, mounting a defense could seem impossible. However, internet sex crimes frequently span multiple jurisdictions, leaving the prosecution juggling parallel investigations or different levels of law enforcement seeking redress.

The LLF Law Firm is vital in these situations. Our Criminal Defense Team will navigate the intricate web of law enforcement jurisdictions, problematic evidence collection, and the complex criminal justice process. Call us now at 888-535-3686 or fill out our confidential consultation form, and we will reach out to you.

California Man Faces Decades in Prison After Teen Assault

A jury in Blair County, Pennsylvania, has convicted Don Robison, a 43-year-old Californian, of multiple felony charges involving the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl from Altoona. Robison, a registered sex offender, posed online as a 13-year-old to gain the trust of his victim, then traveled across the country to her residence. He reportedly convinced her to disable the home's security system before arriving to assault her.

Penalties Robison faces include three counts of unlawful contact with a minor, two counts of indecent assault of a child, corruption of minors, and criminal use of a communication device. Sentencing is scheduled for May, where he may be sentenced to decades in prison.

Internet Sex Crimes Are Complex for Both the Defense and Prosecution

Those charged with internet sex crimes face an uphill battle challenging the prosecution. In Robison's situation, though, considering the use of communication devices and the distance separating him and the victim, there are a lot of moving parts that the defense can focus on to build a case.

For instance, the defense will rely on digital forensic experts to verify that the data collected from computers, cell phones, or online accounts are indeed accurate and properly obtained. If evidence was seized without the proper warrants or if there were signs of data manipulation, the defense could pursue suppression from the judge, potentially weakening the prosecution's case.

When multiple levels of law enforcement are involved—local, state, and federal—it raises complex jurisdictional questions. The defense must confirm that prosecutors have the authority to bring charges and advocate for the fair application of interstate warrants and extradition.

The LLF Law Firm Is Your Trusted Ally in Defense

Cases involving internet sex crimes with minors often have an escalated emotional element to them, threatening due process and often pressuring defendants to prove their innocence before the jury renders a verdict courtroom. However, in any matter, the prosecution bears the duty to prove charges beyond a reasonable doubt, and any resolution relies on substantiated proof—not unfounded conjecture.

The LLF Law Firm is your outlet for challenging criminal charges and asserting your rights to any level of law enforcement or court. Our Criminal Defense Team will challenge the prosecution's narrative and demonstrate where assumptions about the defendant's intent might be speculative or overblown. We work to reduce charges, minimize sentencing exposure, and seek alternatives to incarceration. Call us now at 888-535-3686 or fill out our confidential consultation form, and we will contact you.
