A Month Behind Bars
Thirty-one days in jail. That's how long Daniel Pierson spent in Pennsylvania's Bucks County Correctional Facility after a woman falsely accused him of attempted rape and kidnapping. Anjela Borisova Urumova confirmed that she gave unfounded information to authorities, resulting in Pierson's arrest.
It took a month for authorities to uncover the truth while Pierson's life was put on hold. Security camera footage did not match Urumova's account of the crime, which was reported to have happened in the parking lot of Redner's Grocery Store, and data from her personal cell phone cast another cloud of doubt on her story. When investigators pressed Urumova for an explanation, she confirmed that she had lied to police and fabricated the entire tale.
Urumova further explained that she recognized Pierson and his vehicle, and chose to pinpoint Pierson with her false report. The tables were turned, and Pierson was released. Urumova was escorted to the Bucks County jail with a bail of $30,000 and a round of charges of her own, including falsely alarming authorities and tampering with evidence.

Sexual Assault Is a Complex Crime in Pennsylvania
Sexual assault is a serious and complicated charge that carries a whirlwind of social and professional implications. States vary in their definitions of the crime, but Pennsylvania adopts a broad definition that refers to any form of non-consensual sexual intercourse.
As a second-degree felony, it can change the course of your life and career in an instant, not to mention the mental toll it could impose on you and your family. A conviction comes with unavoidable baggage, possibly including lengthy prison sentences and heavy fines. All of your identifying information could be made public at the federal level through the victim protection act known as Megan's Law, and locally through Pennsylvania's own sex offender registry.
