Former Penn State Football Players Facing Sexual Assault Charges

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Dec 30, 2024 | 0 Comments

Two former members of Penn State's football team are facing multiple sexual assault charges after allegedly raping and assaulting two women at a campus apartment complex in July of 2024. The two were charged by the Centre County District Attorney with rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault in October of 2024. One was also charged with filming the sexual assault without the victim's consent. According to Penn State, the two team members were “no longer enrolled at the University” at the time they were charged.

Sexual assault charges are extremely serious. Depending on the charge, a conviction can mean facing a prison term of up to 20 years and an ongoing requirement to register as a sex offender once the prison term has ended. If you've been accused of any type of sex crime, you need the help of one of the experienced attorneys from the LLF Law Firm's Criminal Defense Team. The Allegations Against the Former Penn State Players

According to one news report, the former players were accused by two women of sexually assaulting them at a university housing complex after the women fell asleep or passed out in one of the complex's apartments. One woman reported waking up while the two were molesting her and being forced to perform various sexual acts with the two men. The second woman alleged that she woke up with some of her clothing removed and one of the men touching her inappropriately.

The news report goes on to say that one of the men at first denied having sexual contact with anyone in the apartment but later admitted to having sex with one of the women, claiming he believed it to be consensual. According to police, they discovered a video of the alleged assault on a mobile phone belonging to one of the men.

The Men Are No Longer Enrolled at Penn State

Penn State released a statement to the news outlet confirming that the two men were no longer enrolled at the school. The news report also stated that the two had been suspended from the football team in August.

The LLF Law Firm Can Help if You've Been Accused of Sexual Assault

If you are facing charges of sexual assault, you need the help of an experienced criminal defense attorney. Your future is in serious jeopardy, and trying to navigate Pennsylvania's complicated criminal justice system while also defending yourself against charges that could have you spending years or decades in jail can lead to disastrous results.

Those accused of sexual assault of any type are often assumed by the public to be guilty of the charges, even though our system is built on the assumption that defendants are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Laws and policies have been put into place that are designed to make sure prosecutors and the criminal justice system take sexual assault allegations seriously, but these laws and policies can often be used to make it more difficult to defend against those kinds of allegations.
