One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's brightest stars has been snuffed out. Since Jonathan Majors was convicted in December 2023 of assaulting and harassing his female partner, several other former girlfriends have stepped forth with similar accusations.
These allegations have resulted in a steep descent from the heights of fame that Majors once enjoyed. The Yale-trained actor has become a household name in the past several years after starring in the HBO series Lovecraft Country and as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Now, the 34-year-old faces serious repercussions—not just potential legal implications but also a diminished professional future after being dropped from the wildly popular franchise.
Of course, you don't have to be a world-famous performer to suffer from the consequences of criminal behavior. The LLF Law Firm Criminal Defense Team can help mitigate those consequences—but only if you call them immediately at 888.535.3686 or send a message by clicking here.
The Initial Accusations
On March 25, 2023, it was Majors himself who placed the 911 call that would lead to his downfall. He communicated to dispatchers that he had arrived home to find his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, unresponsive; however, he was arrested several hours later on several counts of domestic violence after details surfaced that the pair were arguing, then physically fighting, during a limousine ride.
Although he was released from custody that same day, Majors was also issued a temporary restraining order forbidding him from contact with Jabbari.
The next day, March 26, 2023, the Manhattan District Attorney's offices filed formal charges against the 34-year-old actor: three counts of third-degree assault, one count of second-degree harassment, and one count of aggravated harassment, all misdemeanors.
Majors Tries to Turn the Tables
In what many see as a desperate and transparently specious attempt to extricate himself from his legal (and, ergo, professional) troubles, Majors filed countercharges against Jabbari in June. He claims that Jabbari was the aggressor and that she “launched frenzied attacks” on him on the evening of March 25.
Citing a “lack of prosecutorial merit,” however, the Manhattan DA's office declined to try Jabbari and dismissed the charges against her.
In late 2023, a jury found Majors guilty of two counts: assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree. Originally scheduled for February, his sentencing has been postponed until April 8.
Majors could face up to a year in jail.
Additional Accusers Come Forward
In the wake of this highly publicized case, two of the actor's former girlfriends have also stepped forward to accuse him of abusive behavior. Emma Duncan and Maura Hooper both claim to have suffered emotional abuse while in relationships with Majors; Duncan also alleges physical abuse, including being choked, bruised, and “thrown around.”
Majors has maintained his innocence despite these claims and others, particularly those made by costars during the filming of Lovecraft Country. Several female actors reportedly approached the network with complaints about his behavior. Additionally, an article in The New York Times attributes similar reports to over 20 individuals who asked to remain anonymous.
Such Situations Can Go From Bad to Worse
It's certainly never ideal to face charges of domestic violence or have a restraining order taken out against you. However, much worse circumstances can accompany these criminal charges—and a lot of those stem from the accused individual's own behavior. After being charged with this or other crimes, it is essential that you speak with the LLF Law Firm Criminal Defense Team right away. Ultimately, it could make a substantial difference to your charges, your sentence, and your future.
