Lawsuits Against ‘Diddy’ Could Lead to Criminal Charges

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Jul 31, 2024 | 0 Comments

A November 2023 lawsuit against rapper and mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs appears to have sparked a series of legal and civil actions against the star. As of this writing, six other women and one man have also filed lawsuits against Combs. They've accused Combs of sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, sex trafficking, and related crimes.

There are no current criminal charges against Combs. However, federal agents have since raided properties he owns in Miami and Los Angeles. These raids were part of a federal sex trafficking investigation. Thus, it's possible criminal charges are on the horizon.

Whether you're a megastar or not, you need a proper defense when you're facing criminal charges for alleged sex crimes. At the LLF Law Firm, our Criminal Defense Team is on hand to protect your rights.

Combs's case is still developing. The following points summarize the case thus far:

  • Cassandra Ventura, a former partner of Combs's, filed a federal lawsuit in November 2023 accusing him of physical and sexual abuse.
  • Combs settled Ventura's lawsuit in one day. As mentioned previously, several others have now filed similar lawsuits.
  • After the federal raids, Aaron Dyer, Combs's attorney, publicly stated his client is innocent. Combs himself also issued statements suggesting others were trying to “assassinate [his] character.”
  • In May, CNN published 2016 hotel security camera footage showing Combs assaulting Ventura. The nature of the footage supports her previous allegations. Combs posted an apology video on Instagram shortly after.

Again, at this time, Combs has not been criminally charged. However, the developments in the civil lawsuits against him (as well as the general developments in the overall media story surrounding Combs) may yield evidence that could influence any future criminal proceedings.

According to reports, federal agents in New York have been in contact with a John Doe and four or more Jane Does as part of the investigation that prompted the raids on Combs's properties. That said, authorities have not yet confirmed that Combs himself is officially a subject of the federal sex trafficking investigation in question.

The Importance of Legal Assistance When Accused of Sex Crimes

You may not be a major public figure like Combs. You likely don't have to worry about making statements to the press or public at large that could influence a future criminal case.

However, if you're accused of sexual assault, sex trafficking, or a similar crime, you could nevertheless make errors that might jeopardize your future.

Posting about your case on social media is one such mistake. So is openly speaking about your case publicly. In addition, you should never speak with police about your case without a lawyer present.
