Morgue Manager Pleads Guilty to Selling Human Remains

August 5, 2025

The former manager of the Harvard Medical School Morgue recently pleaded guilty to selling and transporting human remains from cadavers donated to the medical school. The morgue manager shipped the remains to a number of states, including Pennsylvania, where he was indicted by the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He faces up to 10 years in prison following his guilty plea.

There are many different types of crimes that can be charged depending on the alleged conduct of the defendant. The Sale of Body Parts from Harvard’s Morgue

According to a press release issued by the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the Harvard Medical School Morgue Manager, Cedric Lodge, removed human remains from cadavers that had been donated to Harvard Medical School and sold them to individuals located in a number of states. The parts were sold after they had been used for research and teaching purposes and, according to the US Attorney, included “organs, brains, skin, hands, faces, dissected heads, and other parts.” Body parts were transported to locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.

Lodge and several other defendants were charged in federal court in Pennsylvania with conspiracy to unlawfully transport stolen human remains across state lines and interstate transfer of stolen goods.

The US Attorney noted that five other defendants who were alleged to have been involved in the body part sale and transport scheme have pleaded guilty to various charges in related cases; two have received prison sentences. Lodge himself faces a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.
