Mount Carmel Man Allegedly Assaults Woman, Threatens Police

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Aug 06, 2024 | 0 Comments

A Mount Carmel man is facing charges after allegedly throwing a woman out a window and threatening police officers who responded at the scene. Rather than cooperating with police and contacting an attorney, Jeffrey Leisey, 40, reportedly escalated the situation. Unfortunately, making poor decisions at the scene of an alleged crime can result in harsher penalties.

Anyone charged with assault or similar violent crimes needs a proper defense. Even if you believe you're innocent, hiring qualified attorneys can significantly influence your case's outcome.

Our knowledgeable lawyers with the LLF Law Firm Criminal Defense Team have experience handling such cases. We're prepared to offer the defense you need if you're facing charges. Get started today by submitting your information through our online form or calling us at 888-535-3686.

Officers Respond to Witness Report

On May 6, officers responded to a call at the 400 block of East Seventh Street in Mount Carmel. Per an affidavit, a witness reported that Leisey had thrown a woman through the front window of a house. At the scene, officers discovered a hole in one of the home's windows, supporting the witness's allegations.

Suspect Allegedly Threatens Officers

Reports indicate officers at the scene heard yelling inside the home. According to investigators, an alleged victim at the scene stated Leisey had assaulted her.

Court documents indicate Leisey threatened officers with multiple knives when they initially attempted to approach him. Allegedly, he also placed a baking sheet beneath his shirt in an apparent attempt to avoid being tasered.

Officers were ultimately able to taser Leisey. Upon being tasered, Leisey dropped the knives in his hand, and officers placed him under arrest. As of this writing, Leisey faces charges of simple assault, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest.

Criminal Defense Attorneys Can Help When You're Charged With Assault

Stories such as these represent nearly everything someone should not do when officers arrive in response to reports of alleged assault or similar crimes. Because Leisey allegedly threatened officers with dangerous weapons, it's possible officers would have had to take more lethal measures to subdue him.

The fact that they were able to taser Leisey and arrest him without further incident doesn't change the fact that his actions at the scene added to the charges he now faces. If you're ever accused of assault or another such crime, cooperate with the police, but don't make any statements whatsoever.

Contact legal professionals instead. In these circumstances, an attorney can help by:

  • Protecting you from making statements that might be used against you in the future
  • If you have an alibi, helping you establish it
  • Identifying weaknesses in the case against you
  • Potentially negotiating a plea bargain
  • Answering any questions you may have during this stressful time

No lawyer can promise a specific outcome when defending you. It's unethical to make such guarantees.

Nevertheless, our lawyers with the LLF Law Firm Criminal Defense Team, offering legal defense services throughout Pennsylvania, can ensure you receive the defense you're entitled to. Learn more about how we can offer peace of mind when you've been charged with assault by calling our offices at 888-535-3686 or submitting our online contact form.
