Northampton Man Arrested on Charges of Distributing Child Pornography

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Oct 01, 2024 | 0 Comments

The U.S. District Attorney's Office for Middle Pennsylvania announced the arrest and indictment of a Northampton County man on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. Easton resident Wei Fu, 38 was arrested after a joint operation between the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office and the Department of Homeland Security. They charged him with 50 counts each of possessing child pornography and distributing photos of minor children engaged in sexual acts.

Have you been arrested on child pornography charges? These cases invoke high levels of concern from the law enforcement community. Convictions result in long prison sentences and mandatory registration in sex offender databases. Experienced representation who is committed to protecting your rights and getting a fair trial is your best chance at achieving a successful outcome and defending your reputation. Suspect Will Face Severe Penalties if Convicted

The suspect, Wei Fu, is in severe legal jeopardy due to the seriousness of the charges. He could be sentenced to 20 years in prison if convicted on all charges. However, a long prison sentence is far from the only potential hazard that can result from a criminal conviction on child pornography charges. People convicted of sexually-based offenses are highly shunned in correctional facilities.

They often face severe physical abuse from other inmates and an indifferent response from corrections officers. That's especially true for people convicted of sexual crimes against children. After release, convicted sex offenders are required to register in a public database of sex offenders, and failure to register can result in them being re-incarcerated. Being listed in sex offender databases will also hamper the efforts of convicts to find housing or employment after release.

Alleged Crimes Took Place in Lackawanna County

Although Wei Fu is from Northampton County, his case will not be heard there. According to the indictment, Fu distributed the explicit images while in Lackawanna County, which is where the charges are filed. He is currently being held in Lackawanna County Prison while awaiting trial.

What to Do if You're Facing Child Pornography Charges

Crimes against children illicit a strong response from the law enforcement community, where police and prosecutors almost reflexively seek the maximum punishment. That tendency is even more pronounced when the allegations involve sexually-based offenses like child pornography. If you've been arrested for these types of crimes, never forget that you are always entitled to the presumption of innocence.

You also have the right to legal representation. The LLF Law Firm Criminal Defense Team has extensive experience mounting successful defenses against child pornography charges.
