A Dauphin County man, Skylar Vandevander, 26, faces charges for 40 offenses, following an investigation by Pennsylvania's Dauphin County Criminal Investigation Division and Penbrook Police. Most of the charges Vandevander faces are for sex crimes or related crimes.

Pennsylvania law takes these matters very seriously. If you're ever charged with a sex crime in the state, having the right defense team can play a significant role in your case's outcome.

At the LLF Law Firm Criminal Defense Team, we're prepared to serve your needs if you've been arrested and charged with these types of violations. Learn more about what we can do for you by submitting your information through our online contact form or by calling our offices today at 888-535-3686.

Dauphin County Man Allegedly Coerced Victims

The following represent just some of the crimes Vandevander has been charged with:

  • Rape
  • Involuntary deviate sexual intercourse
  • Sexual extortion
  • Failure to comply with Megan's Law requirements

According to police, Vandevander met several of his alleged victims over the internet. Some of the cases involved Vandevander obtaining private videos of his victims. In some cases, he allegedly recorded them without their knowledge, while in others, he may have obtained such materials by falsely representing his intentions. Upon obtaining these materials, Vandevander allegedly demanded his victims engage in sex acts, threatening to publicly release the recordings if they didn't comply.

Similarly, police state that Vandevander relied on general threats and coercion to facilitate sexual encounters with his victims. Investigators have stated they believe there may also be additional victims who have yet to be identified.

Potential Consequences in PA Sex Crimes Cases

The penalties Vandevander may face for his alleged crimes can be quite significant. For example, rape is just one of the crimes he's been charged with. Under Pennsylvania law, rape is typically a felony of the first degree. For this charge alone, Vandevander may face more than 10 years in prison.

He may also face fines and other such penalties that can affect both his bank account and freedom. That's not to mention the civil actions his alleged victims may take. If Vandevander is convicted in a criminal trial, anyone suing him might be able to leverage this conviction as evidence of liability or responsibility.

Being convicted of any sex crime also tends to result in a requirement to register as a sex offender. Being registered as a sex offender can substantially limit one's opportunities in regard to employment, personal relationships, and other areas of life, long after a prison sentence has ended.
