PA Man Receives 20-Year Sentence for Straw Gun Purchases

April 27, 2025

A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 10-to-20 years in state prison for making straw gun purchases throughout Lower Bucks County. Straw purchases are made on behalf of another, whether that’s a specific person or simply with the intent to illegally resell the weapon later, and are a common way to funnel firearms into the hands of individuals who are prohibited from purchasing them legally.

Darryl Kaheim Baker, 29, made 23 straw purchases between January 2019 and December 2020, mostly from gun shops in Warminster, Bristol Township, and Upper and Lower Southampton. Only eight of these weapons have been recovered, some of which were left behind at crime scenes in Philadelphia.

Firearm Felonies Add Up Quickly

Baker pleaded guilty to 23 individual counts of making false statements on firearm purchase forms and criminal conspiracy, and one count each of dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, firearm ownership. All counts are felonies.

His case is a good reminder that firearm and weapon charges are taken extremely seriously in the state of Pennsylvania. The weapons purchased by Baker were funneled into the hands of individuals who could not purchase the guns themselves, and several of the weapons were used in conjunction with other criminal activities.
