PA Woman Allegedly Assaults Trooper During Arrest

July 29, 2024

On May 11, Pennsylvania State Police were called to an Erie residence to investigate a report indicating a woman had cut a man. Troopers at the scene found a 42-year-old man with a severe cut on an arm, along with a 40-year-old woman. The man alleges the woman, his girlfriend, cut him during a fight.

Troopers placed both under arrest. However, the woman was allegedly uncooperative and attempted to assault one of the troopers arresting her.

Cooperating with the police (while exercising your right to remain silent) is always ideal when facing potential domestic violence or assault charges. It’s best to call legal professionals in these circumstances.

Woman Attempts to Flee During Arrest

The identities of the two suspects have not been publicly revealed as of this writing. According to troopers, when they attempted to place the woman under arrest, she attempted to flee on foot after slipping one hand out of her handcuffs.

Troopers were able to catch the woman and take her back into custody. While troopers were taking her into custody, the woman allegedly kicked one of them, targeting the genital area.

Responding to arrest in this manner certainly exacerbated the situation for the woman. Per court documents, she’s been charged with:

  • Simple assault (two counts)
  • Felony aggravated assault
  • Felony aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer
  • Escape
  • Resisting arrest
  • Disorderly conduct

The man, on the other hand, has only been charged with simple assault and harassment. Due to the nature of the charges, the bail for the woman was set higher than the bail for the man.

What to Do When You’re Arrested

Being arrested is a stressful experience. However, as stories like this remind us, failing to cooperate with officers is never in your best interests.

If you’re ever placed under arrest, you should:

  • Cooperate with the officers.
  • Remain silent and don’t discuss any details of the case (even if you’re trying to provide a valid explanation as to why you didn’t commit a crime).
  • Never resist arrest, as doing so will only add to your charges.
  • Even if you’re mistreated, comply with the officers’ requests, knowing that you can always address the mistreatment at a later date.
  • If you’re able to do so, write down details about the arrest so that you can share this information with your attorney before you forget anything important.

Do not answer any questions or participate in an interview without a lawyer present.
