PA Woman Charged With Murder of Boyfriend's Toddler-Aged Daughter

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Feb 20, 2024 | 0 Comments

New Castle Police Department arrested a Pennsylvania woman in the death of her boyfriend's 18-month-old daughter, Iris Rita Alfera, accusing her of feeding the baby fatal doses of nail polish remover. The details of the case are harrowing. The events unfolded on June 25, when the toddler's father, Bailey Jacoby, left his daughter in Aleisia Owen's care. Soon after, Owens notified Jacoby that something was wrong with the baby. When Jacoby rushed home, the child was unresponsive. Despite efforts by medical doctors, Alfera died four days later from organ failure. An autopsy revealed the toddler had also ingested water beads, button-sized batteries, and a metal screw in the months before her death.

Investigators found that from February to June last year, Owens had used her cellphone to research what household products could seriously harm or kill kids. In January, the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office formally charged Owens, 20, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault of a child, endangering the welfare of a child, and other related offenses.
