Domestic Violence Call and Police Response

In late March, police responded to a domestic violence call at Christopher Mazur's residence in Altoona. Upon arrival, officers found the victim outside the home, visibly injured with a lump on her head. According to reports, Mazur had assaulted her with a glass liquor bottle and punched her during an argument. As officers attempted to arrest Mazur, he resisted, forcing them to drag him out of the house and use two sets of handcuffs to subdue him.

Testimony from the victim's mother led to a search warrant for firearms, where officers discovered significant amounts of THC and marijuana products. After this discovery, a second warrant focusing on drugs, currency, and paraphernalia uncovered over 10 pounds of marijuana, tools used to package and distribute drugs, and large amounts of cash.

Escalating Charges

Initially, police responded to a report of domestic assault, but their investigation quickly expanded when they learned about other potential illegal activities. It isn't uncommon for police to obtain warrants for further searches after a domestic violence call, especially if the victim cooperates.

While Mazur was likely to face assault charges related to domestic violence, it was not a guarantee that the police would find evidence to charge him with other crimes. But now, Mazur has been accused of drug possession, drug delivery, resisting arrest, and obstruction. To top it off, police found some of the THC products in a child's bedroom, prompting charges of child endangerment.

Mazur's father went to court and argued that marijuana was stored in the house due to the father and son duo routinely traveling to cannabis shows and conventions in other states. Regardless of whether you believe his story, he wouldn't have to explain this to a judge if the initial report of domestic violence hadn't led to warrants and further police action. If someone calls the police and alleges that you committed domestic violence, you may also find yourself having to explain aspects of your life that the police would otherwise not be aware of.
