Football Star Von Miller Facing Domestic Violence Charges in Texas

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Feb 02, 2024 | 0 Comments

Von Miller, a linebacker for the Buffalo Bills football team, is facing criminal charges arising from a domestic violence incident, according to a news article. Miller, 34, allegedly assaulted his longtime girlfriend while the two were arguing at their Texas home in late November. The press has not revealed the identity of Miller's accuser, who, in addition to being pregnant, is the mother of his two children.

Like their counterparts in Texas, prosecutors in Pennsylvania take domestic violence allegations seriously, and the penalties can be stringent when someone is convicted or pleads guilty to the charges. Von Miller Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Girlfriend

The news article said that while Miller was arguing with his girlfriend, he shoved and pushed her toward the door, telling her to leave the house. He allegedly stepped on her feet and caused her to fall backward into a chair and then put his hands around her neck. Miller also supposedly pulled out a chunk of her hair, stomped on her laptop computer, and put his hands around her neck again. When the alleged victim said she was calling the police, Miller left the home, according to the news report.

Miller's girlfriend told the responding police officers that she was six weeks pregnant, and Texas authorities issued an arrest warrant for a third degree felony of assault on a pregnant woman. Miller turned himself into the police the following day and was released on bond, the news article said.

What Are Domestic Violence Charges in Pennsylvania?

In Pennsylvania, domestic violence is a “catch-all” term used for a number of prohibited acts that are aimed at family and household members, sexual partners, current and former spouses and romantic partners, and persons sharing a child with the accused individual. The prohibited acts include physical violence, threats of violence, harassment, and stalking, among others.

If an individual is convicted or pleads guilty to a domestic violence-related criminal offense, the law imposes penalties ranging from significant fines to prison terms. In addition, the perpetrator's resultant criminal record will show up on background checks. When prosecutors bring a domestic violence charge, it is a very serious matter that should not be taken lightly.
